History of the Horse: A Literature Approach to Equine History by Hilary Berg. Beginning in the 1700's with the Godolphin Arabian and continuing through the early 1900's, students will learn of the Lipizzaner stallions, wild mustangs, the American bred Morgan horse, the Chincoteague ponies and other breeds.

The guide utilizes the Marguerite Henry award-winning books, Walter Farley's Black Stallion and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty. Learn horse anatomy, breed identification, basic sketching of horses, charting blood lines and Bible memory verses regarding the horse. Contains 92 lessons and it is suggested that three lessons be completed each week. The lesson are written in an outline format and instructions are brief. Example: Lesson 19. A) Read Chapters 12 and 13 of Black Beauty. B) In Chapter 13, what does James say about being cruel, and what does he compare it with? What is the Devil's mark and God's mark? C) Memory verse this week, Isaiah 31:1.

About the Author: Hilary B. Severson is a homeschool graduate who has always loved horses. She currently attends California Polytechnic State University where she is majoring in history.
